Brentford average 5, 759 in season 2002/03

Brentford's attendance figures throughout season 2002/03, showed a marked decrease of 14.2% on the average attained in their play-off season of 2001/02.

Coppell: Popular manager
Perhaps the figures are unsurprising, given the fact popular manager, Steve Coppell had departed as well as crowd favourites, Ivor Ingimarsson, Darren Powell, Paul Evans and Lloyd Owusu.

The loss of these influential personnel resulted in Brentford managing just eight home victories at Griffin Park, compared to the excellent 16 recorded in the previous campaign.

Predictably, the visit of near neighbours Queens Park Rangers resulted in the highest league attendance seen at Griffin Park. A total of, 9, 168 watching the Easter Saturday derby.

On the downside, just 3, 390 turned out to witness the visit of Colchester United, in the twice rearranged fixture on Tuesday, 11th March.

In summary however, these figures still represent the third highest average attendance in the last ten years as the table below illustrates.

Indeed apart from last year, just once has this season's figures been significantly bettered during that period, the play-off season of 1993/94.

Brentford's complete ten year Average Attendance Record:

2002/03 - 5, 759
