After an entertaining draw with Staines Town on Saturday, Brentford headed south west to Devon where they will face Bideford AFC in a pre season frienly tomorrow.
Unfortunately we were unable to speak to anyone from the club for our usual Q and A session but we did manage to find some background on our opponents anyway.
Managed by Sean Joyce, a journeyman football whos experience includes local rivals Exeter and Torquay, Western League Bideford have had a fairly sucessful couple of years. Winning League doubles in 2002 and 2004 and finishing 3rd in 2003 the club is rapidly rose through the counties and non leagues.
A run which took them to the semi-final of the FA Vase in 2004 elevated the club into a household name in the local area, the club improved last season and once again won the Western Premier League title in 2004/05.
The semi-pro clubs player of the reigning play of the year is Mike Southgate who has scored over 100 goals in the last 3 years, a club record and also a record which has led him to be the divisions top scorer in the last 3 years, a player to watch indeed.
Admission is five pounds for adults, three for seniors and anyone under 16 gets in for free, the kick off time is 7:45pm.
