Brentford came through their FA Cup replay tonight with a 1-0 victory over Oldham at Griffin Park.

The game shown live on Sky was a largely dull affair with few chances. As the two sides have met three times previously this season both sets of players appeared to cancel each other out, however a header from Lloyd Owusu was enough to win the game for the Bees and set up a 'winable' away tie in the third round with League Two Stockport.

What the manager said?

Martin Allen was understandably pleased with the level of performance shown by his players and a continuation of their great run brought delight to him,

"It was always going to be a tough game. Oldham came and put men behind the ball, our passing wasn't great and we found it difficult to break them down. There wasn't many chances for either side but I'm pleased we managed to put one away"

"I think we deserved the victory overall, but take nothing away from Oldham as they did their best to stop is from playing."

On match winner the boss said,

"Lloyd hasn't been getting stick from our fans. He's worked hard and got another goal today, we all appreciate his contribution and although he's got four this year it's important to remember the amount he's laid on for other players."

Commenting on the next round the manager said,

"Tranmere is our next game on Saturday and we will be concentrating on that before we even start thinking about the next round of the FA Cup."

What the players said?

In an interview with Sky Sports Owusu and man of the match Sodje spoke to fans. Sodje began by explaining what he thought about the game,

"It was tough for us, Oldham are a good side and we cancelled each other out in the first period."

"I felt in the second half it was important for us to keep going and as long as we kept working I always felt we were going to get a goal."

Owusu then spoke about his own personal delight,

"The goal was a relief for me, I was pleased to score and I'm more delighted that we could make it through to round three."

"I never got a chance to be part of last season's run but I hope now that in 2006 we can put our own run together"
