Allen's Brentford future no clearer

Since the news broke on Monday night that Martin Allen had resigned as manager of Brentford we have heard conflicting reports that have do little to deny or confirm reports of his departure.

The immediate news following the managers resignation was that he was planning to have a break from football, following a disagreement with the club about next seasons budget. It now appears as stated in later reports that he has been given permission to speak to Tranmere about the vacant managers job there.

A statement from an unknown source said,

"The latest news on Martin Allen is that Brentford have given Tranmere permission to talk to him. Therefore Martin is expected to leave with compensation from Tranmere coming in the opposite direction."

"Martin reportedly wanted a larger playing budget but it is clear that the club cannot afford Martin's demands."

They however go onto state that,

"It now appears that next seasons playing budget will be very similar to what it was at the beginning of last season."

Chairman Greg Dyke had been quoted as saying Allen has resigned, however this information has not yet been confirmed by a written statement of intent. He told the Richmond and Twickenham Times,

"It is now clear that Martin is determined to leave and you can't keep a manager who wants to go. He has still not put anything in writing, but told us he wanted to quit a couple of weeks ago, seemed to change his mind and then resigned on Tuesday.

"We have now given Tranmere permission to talk to Martin subject to them paying us compensation for the remaining year of his contract. As his contract states that he must give us three months' notice, we could have stopped him working for the next three months, but it is not worth it. We had been reasonable by giving him permission to talk to other clubs previously."
