Local authorities had disputed the work and Brentford themselves had problems financing the deal but the job which is set to cost over £600,000 was given the green light yesterday following a deal which will see Brentford recieveing a grant for most of the work set to be done to Griffin Park. The improvements are set to be completed by the end of may.
Speaking to the official website Keith Dickens, managing director of Brentford said,
"This is some of the best news our clubs has had in ages. The reality of the situation is that the ink is still drying on the deal and any late setback could have cost us."
Regarding the deal Dickens added,
"The critical issue was should we invest in Griffin Park when we have a vision of building a new stadium?"
"We still remain intent on delivering a new stadium, but to secure and build it will take time. The fantastic grant means we can invest in our only major asset right now and put ourselves in a better position from which to move later."
The director also hinted that some changes may take place following the move which could mean that the new work benefits Brentford fans not just those in the 'away' end of the stadium with a potential idea to switch the end of the gound which the home supporters are situated,
"This work gives us more options but we are not decided on this one yet and the idea is to consult our supporters first and take account of what they think."
