A solid performance from the Bees today led to a goalless game at Griffin Park this afternoon. The warm weather and sticky conditions limited the games pace but chances were a plenty as usual with both sides looking to continue unbeaten pre season runs.
Both sides lined up 4-4-2, the Bees fielded all four of their five summer signings with Owusu partnering Fitzgerald upfront.
The game began at a slow pace as much of the Charlton attacks build down the left hand side, a great move involving Johansson nearly led to a goal but tbe ball just missed his team mates.
The Bees came close to scoring early on through Owusu who rounded the keeper but had his shot cleared off the line by a defender, however the clearence only made it to Brooker who's shot was saved by the recovering Kiely.
Tabb then also tested the Charlton rear guard with a shot from a cross by Brooker, however his shot was also cleared from the line by Powell this time to safety. Murphy and Bent went close for Charlton during the middle of the first half but both were stopped by a combination of Bankole and Sodje.
Bent then had the ball in the net but his effort was ruled out for offside as the game switched backwards and forwards Kiely nearly let in a backpass from Fortune under pressure from Sodje and Owusu's flick led to Brooker volleying just over .
The second half began with the return of the Iceman to Griffin Park as Hreidarsson came on against his former employers,it was he who had Charlton's best chance early on with a rising drive which Bankole had difficulty holding onto.
Kiely then made a fantastic save from a Tabb volley which looked destined for the top corner before Charlton were awareded a penalty for a foul on Bent by Turner.
However for the second game in sucession Bankole saved low to his left from Euell's kick. Subsititutions by both sides took place as the game lacked pace, but chances were still created before the end, four good ones for Charlton all falling to Bent and an Rankin shot deflected by Campbell was a tough one for Kiely to stop but he did so.
Trialist Mesinho looked good when he came on being involved in a move with Sodje and O'Connor who in the end had a header saved by the keeper. Charlton also pressed forward with Bankole saving well, twice from Bent and once from Lloyd Sam.
Allen then gave a 'debut' the mystery player who turned out to be Ian Hirth, auction winner wearing number 32, however the referee blew up before Hirth could touch the ball although after the game he said he was delighted to be involved in the game even for such a short time.
Both clubs settled for a draw as the game fizzled out, satisfied with a fair result the rivals moved on unbeaten to their next game.
