"Brentford's sucess no surprise!

Bees manager Martin Allen insists he is not at all surprised by his side's fourth-placed finish.

Allen is widley regarded as having done a superb job at Griffin Park since being appointed in March last year and has says the pessimists who wrote off the club's promotion chances at the start of the season should not be surprised they were wrong.

Brentford are set face Sheffield Wednesday in a two-legged play-off semi-final and Allen insists he has every faith in his players ahead of Thursday's first-leg trip to Hillsborough.

He told the club's official website,

"I'm sure all the supporters will be very proud and happy to have finished the competition in fourth place. To everyone on the outside it might have come as a surprise, but not to me. I knew which players were coming and I knew that together they could do it. I suppose the last couple of weeks of tension has made it even sweeter."

He added,

"We will be travelling up to Sheffield on Wednesday lunchtime and by the time we leave everybody will know their job. I am convinced there is still a lot more to come."
