Coppell goes too

It follows a season which saw the Bees reach the Second Division Play Off Final played in front of their best average home crowd since their First Division days.
The Board of Directors had recently agreed a new and substantial improved offer to Steve, but he decided to decline the invitation to extend his stay at Griffin Park.

Steve Coppell cited the financial restraints placed on the Club as the main reason for his decision which have been brought about through the collapse of the ITV Digital contract, the delay in finding a suitable new site for a stadium and the overall lack of support for the Club even given the improved gates last season.

Steve Coppell said, "I have had a terrific time at Brentford and I'm sorry I can't continue. I should like to thank both the players and supporters for a great twelve months".

In reluctantly accepting Steve Coppell`s decision, the Board of Brentford Football Club wished it to be placed on record that they were very appreciative of his efforts for the Club during the past twelve months, and wished him every success in whichever direction he now chooses to go.
