EXCLUSIVE - Brentford in training - Part One

Last updated : 11 July 2005 By Smallsy
On a warm hot sunny day last week, Brentford-mad's editor went tto watch the club train and managed to squeeze a few words out of some of the players about their thoughts on the way things were going so far.

The Bees players seemed relaxed as Martin Allen began day three of official Brentford training ahead of the 2005/05 season. Containing many new faces and several old ones as well the boys looked in good shape, aiming to focus on first securing their place in League One and then hoping to achieve a second consecutive playoff appearance.

"It's good that the manager decided to stay with us despite speculation linking him with a move" said 'keeper Stuart Nelson,

"I think his show of faith in the team is excellent motivation and precisely what we need going into a tough campaign. Last year we surprised everyone I think with the way we played, but this year we're not so much of an unknown quantity and it's always more difficult to sustain your position after overachievement" he continued.

"This season we should aim to improve yes, but if we can't then its not the end of the world,we're a relatively small club and theres many more fancied teams ahead of us, i'd rather be underdogs because the pressure of favourites is difficult. We're not thinking anywhere past the 6th August at the moment"

Midfielder Jay Tabb told us he is more ready than ever to play a consistent part in the first team,

"I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve! I can''t wait to get going, even though we've only been on holiday for a month, I'm eager to get playing again. Pre season is good but nothing beats the atmosphere of a big game. We tasted semi success last season reaching the play offs but that just makes you want more"

New boy Ricky Newman spoke to us for a short time also,

"Of course I'm looking forward to the new season, but im concentrating on getting fit and performing to get in the team first. All us new players mustn't take our places for granted, yes we've been brought into the club, but we still part of a squad I'm not making any plans to play 40 games just yet."

Part two and three of interviews with the players will be continuing this week.
