Having lost further ground on those around them with a defeat to Cheltenham yesterday, the position of Brentford became increasingly perelous with the 0-2 scoreline.
With five games left in the season the Bees are now twelve points behind their weekend opponents and must defeat Crewe and hope Rotherham, Bradford and Chesterfield slip up if they harbour realistic hope of staying in League One next season.
During the week, Scott Fizgerald spoke about his desire to fight for his own future at the club and refusing to be resigned to relegation just yet the Brentford boss said,
"Yesterday was a major blow, it's been the same as in recent weeks though as results around us have gone in our favour but our own results have not been good enough."
Fiztgerald once again lauded his side for their battling and said,
"We have quality and battling qualities which are there for everyone to see."
The manager finished by saying,
"We will give everything until the last game, until it's mathmatically impossible we'll keep battling."
