Goal Shy!

Rowan Vine, the 20-year-old striker manager Wally Downes acquired on a season long loan from Nationwide First Division champions, Portsmouth, finished the 2002/03 campaign as the leading Brentford goalscorer with just ten league goals.

Whilst it can be argued that the team enjoyed a period of transition last term, it is interesting to note (see chart below) that Vine's figures are the fewest number of goals recorded to attain pole position at Griffin Park over the last ten years.

Owusu: Missed
The chart clearly illustrates the void created by the loss of pacey front man Lloyd Owusu, who left for Sheffield Wednesday last summer, after finishing as top marksmen in three of his four seasons in West London.

Nicky Forster retains his record of scoring the highest number of goals in a season over the period. Now at Reading, Forster amassed an impressive 24 league goals during the Bees' ultimately unsuccessful Nationwide Second Division play-off campaign of 1994/95.
