Having joined Colchester United last week, loanee defender Gary Richards was thrust straight into the action by his manager last week and helped Brentford to a second consecutive win.

With Brentford planning another 'Great Escape' under Scott Fiztgerald, Richards admitted that he had no concerns when swapping the Championship for League One,

"I spoke to Fitz last Thursday and he was keen to get me down here,"

"He knew me from our time together and Layer Road and had seen me play last season, so he wanted to get me in to play a month's games as he saw that my progress was being hampered by the arrivals at Colchester."

Richards also spoke of an obvious determination from all the players to get out of their current predicament,

"You can tell it means a lot to the players to get out of the relegation battle they are in at the moment."

"They all seem to be pulling together to get up the league. At this stage of the season, it's about getting results."

Looking forward to a big three days for Brentford the on loan defender said,

"This week we've got Huddersfield and then we're at Northampton. Beating Brighton was important as it made sure we kept them down there and there are still a lot of sides in the mix. So much of football is down to confidence and that comes from results which Brentford are getting at the moment."

"The cliche is that when you're down there, you get a run of things against you, but once the tide turns with a couple of better performances, things that weren't going with you turn around and you start to climb the table."
