However, he could not help but be disappointed the Bees were unable to claim victory having raced into a 2-0 lead only to be pegged back, before again establishing a 3-2 advantage.
He said: "It's a good point in the end but when you are 3-2 up, it's disappointing not to come away with the three points. We've played a lot of games in a short space of time but we had a right go.
"Colchester are a big, strong and powerful side that is very direct. We knew what we had to cope with and generally we did it. But the second goal knocked the stuffing out of us and it was a bit of a kick in the teeth.
"We gave it a right go and I'm so proud of the boys. We have taken four points from Colchester who are in the play-off hunt and it showed the commitment of the boys."
