Goalkeeper Paul Smith was the hero as Division Two leaders Brentford came back from 3-1 down to force a penalty shoot-out and defeat Bournemouth in dramatic fashion at Dean Court.
Keeper Smith saved two penalties from Carl Fletcher and James Hayter in the shoot-out, to secure Brentford's place in the second-round draw.
Bournemouth took the lead after just two minutes when midfielder Danny Thomas' corner was headed home by midfield Marcus Browning.
But Brentford drew level just minutes later when striker Kevin O'Connor scored the first of two penalties after Jason Tindall had fouled defender Scott Marshall.
Teenage striker Alan Connell restored the home side's lead on 15 minutes, calmly diverting skipper Fletcher's shot into the net.
Midfielder Thomas then made it 3-1 six minutes before half-time, when he lifted a majestic 25 yard shot over Smith.

Brentford were level just 16 minutes later when super-sub Rowan Vine fired in from 20 yards after Bournemouth midfielder Browning had been forced to take over from the Chris Tardis in goal, after the unlucky goalkeeper had been knocked unconscious by a Leon Constantine challenge
