Brentford recorded their first League victory in four outings with this 2-1 win in an incident packed encounter against Chesterfield at Griffin Park.
The home side opened the scoring on six minutes when Stephen Hunt scored from a free-kick from just outside the box after keeper Carl Muggleton had fouled Kevin O'Connor.
The visitors equalised after 13 minutes, Chris Brandon drove home right-footed from 25 yards inside of the near post and almost immediately keeper Muggleton limped off and was replaced by substitute keeper Andy Richmond.
Three minutes after the break the home side restored their lead when a short corner by Hunt was played to O'Connor who whipped the ball into the six-yard box and Rowan Vine gleefully volleyed home.
On the hour mark Rob Edwards was sent off for his second bookable offence after a tussle with home captain Michael Dobson.
Ten minutes from time the visitors were reduced to nine men when central defender Steve Blatherwick was given a straight red card by Mr Penton after he fouled Stephen Evans just outside of the box.
At this point the home side were swarming all over the visitors box and deep into injury time substitute Jamie Fullarton saw his left-foot strike from inside of the box smash against the right-hand upright and Vine, following up, had his effort cleared off the line.
Referee Penton booked five other Spireites players in this incident packed 90 minutes.
After the match Spireites Manager Dave Rushbury said: "We were bossing it. We had plenty of chances, all they seemed to do was fall over and get free-kicks.
"The ref missed a handball in the first half. It should have been a penalty, but he saw every tackle in the second half." He added: "Rob (Edwards) was booked harshly early on and the second sending-off was scandalous."
