The incident happened after Tyler, the Posh keeper gathered a Bees attack. Everyone ran back towards the halfway line as per normal, when Tyler decided to kick the ball away. Unfortunately for Tyler his clearance struck the backside of Darren Powell and the ball rebounded into the empty net. Danson missed the incident & awarded a free kick to Tyler – the Bees had been robbed.
Brentford started the match brightly, full of confidence after Tuesday fantastic victory. As early as the 2nd minute, the ball fell to the feet of Dobson who crossed onto the head of Owusu at the backpost. Owusu rose and powered an effort at goal. Tyler did well to tip the ball onto the bar and over for a corner.
The Bees continued to play well with the home side hardly threatening at all. The goal came 3 minutes before the break, and it was Lloyd's 15th goal of the season. He picked up a loose ball before side stepped the challenge of Simon Rea and firing past Tyler.
Owusu created another great opportunity a minute later, but Tyler did well to block the effort and the all important 2nd goal failed to come.
The second half was totally a different affair, and it seemed like the Bees sat back and allowed Posh back into the game. Darren Powell had a complete mare in the 2nd half after losing his confidence after he sliced the ball for a clearance. To be fair to Darren, the pitch was an absolute disgrace, but this unnerved him and he was all at sea for the rest of the game.
The rest of the defence did OK, but midfield was anonymous with Mahon back at sweeper. Owusu worked his socks off, but Big Ben Burgess hardly shone.
Powell could have been sent off, after he fouled one of the Posh forwards who was clean through, but running away from goal. From the free kick, Paul Smith produced a fantastic save diving at full stretch to tip the ball over from Bullards effort.
Posh had several other chances - Farell missed a good chance from just two yards out after Powell had lost possession, and Paul Smith produced yet another fantastic save when he the ball over superbly from a Forsyth shot.
Unfortunately Posh finally found what was a deserved equaliser on their 2nd half performance when Joseph smashed a powerful shot at goal. Sidwell ducked down to head the ball high into the air. Smith went to the bar, but unfortunately we impeded by McKenzie, an incident that the referee again failed to spot, and he fumbled the ball into the back of the net.
So another disappointing result overall – Brentford have to beat these sides if they have hopes of automatic promotion. It all looked so rosy at half time, but they failed to play in the second. Why do they only play well in one half? However, this was Brentfords 11th point out of 15, which is very pleasing. Martin Rowlands & Mark Williams must be nearing full fitness with no game for a week, so this can only be good for Brentford.
Up the Bees!
Smith, P, Anderson, Ingimarsson, Powell, Evans, Mahon, Owusu, Dobson, Hunt (Gibbs,87), Burgess, Sidwell. Subs: Julian, Rowlands, McCammon, O'Connor.
