Andy Legg was the architect of home success for Peterborough United for the second time in the new campaign as the veteran defender created one goal and scored another in an emphatic 3-0 demolition of Brentford.
The 38-year-old former Welsh international - usually employed by Posh as a sweeper - shattered Tranmere with his trademark long throws two weeks ago and then proceeded to undo Brentford with pinpoint crosses from an unaccustomed role wide on the left.
Clive Platt's close range finish on 21 minutes, when he was picked out perfectly by Legg's accurate centre, was all that separated the sides at the halfway stage, although it took as superbly timed tackle by Peter Kennedy to deny Isaiah Rankin a certain equaliser just before the break.
Posh doubled their advantage within seconds of the restart and this time Legg had drifted into an ideal far post spot to stab the ball past Stuart Talbot when David Farrell crossed from the right.
And the Brentford goalkeeper was left helpless again as Andy Clarke claimed his first of the season with a firm header from a Kennedy cross in the 53rd minute.
Such was home dominance that manger Barry Fry could replace Legg, Clarke and Steve Thomson in one swoop before Danny Sonner almost got on the scoresheet with a snapshot that just cleared the crossbar.
With John Salako having little scope to display his creative skills, Rankin often lacked support leading the Brentford line but there was some promise from substitute Ryan Peters.
Peters, celebrating his 17th birthday, brought the best from Mark Tyler in the Posh goal with a strong late shot.
