Wycombe finally found their form after a poor run with a 4-0 drubbing of Brentford. Two goals within two minutes in the first half, followed by two in the last ten minutes ensured an emphatic victory.
After an even first 15 minutes, the home side took the lead through Jonny Dixon's fifth goal in seven games.
Goalkeeper Frank Talia launched a throw down the right, midfielder Michael Simpson made progress down the flank and sent in a cross to the near post which Dixon converted.
Two minutes later the Blues doubled their advantage. Dixon's strike partner Jermaine McSporran, starting his first game since a long lay-off with injury, made tracks down the left and his cross was met by the unlikely source of Danny Senda who registered his second goal of the campaign.
The hosts were grateful to keeper Talia who made a fantastic save to push a header from Mark McCammon onto the bar and also to defender Roger Johnson for a brilliant tackle inside the area to deny Scott Marshall.
Premiership referee Graham Poll dismissed the Bees' Mark Peters in the 75th minute for a two-footed challenge on Simpson, which required the intervention of the Wycombe physio to treat the prostrate midfielder.
The Chairboys wrapped up the victory with ten minutes left. Dannie Bulman played in substitute Gavin Holligan who had only been on the pitch for three minutes. Holligan finished with a crisp left-foot shot.
The hosts garnished the performance in the 87th minute as Simpson won the ball on the right and sent over a cross which was only half-cleared to substitute Darren Currie.
He pushed the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the net to clinch the biggest victory for the Blues over Brentford in their ten-year League history.
Wycombe manager Lawrie Sanchez said after the game: "Today we got our just desserts as our clinical finishing was the difference between the two sides.
"In the past three games we have suffered against the quality of Wigan, Blackpool and Crewe, but against a side we felt we could beat, our finishing stood out.
"It has been a really good performance by the youngsters in the team with Jonny Dixon scoring his fifth goal in seven matches and Gavin Holligan and Darren Currie coming off the bench to score at vital times in the second half.
"We now look forward to Barnsley next week who themselves have been on a resurgence with my old mate Glyn Hodges from my Wimbledon days in charge."
